Often an affiliate will create a website or a web page to drive traffic towards the website of the product that he or she wishes to sell. Often the marketing skills of the affiliate combined with the good quality of the product of the vendor will achieve great financial success for both parties. In this way businesses (or vendors) only pay the affiliate for sales that they generate. The more sales an affiliate generates, the more he or she gets paid! Furthermore, in internet marketing an affiliate can earn up to 75% of the sale!

How Do I Become An Affiliate?

3. A product with a gravity of over 70 is doing very well. Although anything over 20 is possible to sell.
4. Get to know the person or company behind the product that you have chosen. Email them. If they don’t reply, it’s their loss. Get to know their business and stay in touch as they could become important contacts.
5. Use as many marketing techniques as you can. These days there are so many different options. You will have to carry out some research to establish which options are best for you.  6. Assess your results on your ClickBank account. Is it time to move on to another niche?
7. Always remember that the content of your ads/marketing tools is vital. Use testimonials, reviews etc to get the customers’ attention.

Get Your Hoplink
Before you can start making money from the product you have chosen, you need to create your hoplink. A hoplink is your personalised link through which your customers will be directed to the product you are trying to sell. You will use your hoplink in each and every advert you create. If somebody clicks through your hoplink then a cookie will be placed on that person’s computer. Should they go on to buy the product then you will receive the commission from that sale.

What Does Successful Marketing Look Like? ~ An Article by Charlie Page

One of the problems with working on the Internet is that most of us do it in isolation.

Instead of the usual give-and-take of office conversation, we have email, a decidedly one-sided way to communicate. Or forums, where the opinions can be quite loud but not necessarily based on actual experience.

Instead of the usual boss judging our progress and letting us know how we are performing (often in no uncertain terms) we are on our own – accountable only to ourselves. Which is good and bad at the same time.

No boss looking over your shoulder is a good thing. Having no one to ask questions of when you need help is not. I think this is one reason why my consulting offer at the Directory of Ezines has been so popular.

While working on your own in an Internet business can be incredibly rewarding, it can be lonely and frustrating as well.

One of the big frustrations is NOT knowing what success looks like.

Do you really know how many visitors is good?
Do you really know how many first time visitors should buy your product?
Do you really know how much money is realistic to earn online for someone who is not Dan Kennedy or Yanik Silver or Frank Kern?

For many who are reading this now, the answer is ‘not really’. Not knowing what to expect, or if we are doing well or poorly, can lead to real frustration and more isolation.

Here is my opinion based on 12 years of experience .

I believe that any person of average intelligence who works 4 hours a day at their online business, and follows a proven marketing plan, should be able to earn around $5000 per month almost completely automatically within 6 months of starting. Not $5000 in a month but $5000 a month almost every month. And that income should only grow from there.

Can anyone guarantee this will happen? No. But I have helped many people get there and can tell you that the ones who did get there followed a proven plan and stuck with that plan, avoiding the tendency that so many have to go for the quick buck and be distracted by the shiny object. The more focused they were the faster their results came.

Having the somewhat unusual perspective of having worked online for over 10 years, and having worked with many of the top online marketers, allow me to share with you what I feel online success looks like.

After all, when you know what the destination looks like it’s much easier to plot a path and be aware of the signs of success along the way.
Successful marketing creates income

Why do people work online? Mostly it’s to make money. Some want a better work environment (home!) while others have lost their job and can’t find another. It happens all too often in today’s world. So, for most, the goal is income.

If that describes you, and if you are just starting out, then you need to know a few things. First, the idea of spending $40 and making $1500 is just not the real world. But you should expect your advertising efforts to pay you back and make some profit so you can reinvest.

That is a reasonable expectation most of the time. No one wins every time when marketing online. But the winners should be many more than the losers and the winners should be profitable enough to help you do more promotion.

As I mentioned before, I truly believe that person who is willing to work can build up to a $5000 per month income in about 6 months if they avoid the all-too-common mistake of losing their money to scammers and follow a proven marketing plan.

I’m hearing from far too many people who now have no money left to do real marketing because they fell victim to a get-rich-quick scheme. What that is sad (I’ve been there too) it can be overcome so don’t lose hope!
Successful marketing builds lists

The reasons to have a list of your own are many, and are covered in other articles on this blog. But let me give you perhaps the #1 reason to have a list of your own — when you have a list of your own you have unlimited free advertising anytime you want it. If you had a list of 10,000 people you could send a solo ad to them right now and would almost certainly make sales.

You could swap solo ads with another list owner and build your own list faster while still making sales. And you would be a perfect prospect for someone to want to joint venture with you.

For these reasons, and many more, the successful marketing I have seen over the years puts a strong emphasis on list building.

If you follow a proven plan and use a great squeeze page you should be able to convert about 1/3 of all visitors into subscribers. Some can convert more, some less. The real key is to send all the traffic you generate, from all methods of marketing, to your own squeeze page and not directly to a sales page. If you use a pop out on exit like Exit Splash you will convert even more as you offer those who were going to leave one more chance to see what you are offering.
Successful marketing creates freedom

Working online is very different from working offline. When you work online you have a chance to create real freedom; both financial freedom and time freedom as well. This again is where following a proven plan is important. If all of your marketing efforts are aimed at producing results while automating your marketing then time will become your ally.

Let me give you an example. The names are changed to protect members.

Joe sent about 1000 visitors to the sales letter of a “high gravity” product because he heard that is what works. He made a few sales and actually created a small profit. Good for Joe. But once those sales were made his promotion was over. While a few sales might dribble in over time Joe received 99.9% of what he will ever receive quickly. Joe used “one and done” marketing.

Jane however had a better idea. She took the time to have a squeeze page created (she used a blog and Optimize Press) and sent her roughly 1000 visitors to that page. About 300 of them opted in to her list, and some bought immediately. But because she had a follow up system in place (only 10 messages) she made even more sales over time and surpassed Joe’s results.

Plus, she now owns a list of 300 people who have raised their hands and said “yes, I want to hear from you!“. If she handles that list right, and if she continues to send all traffic to her squeeze pages, she will build a real online business and be on track for the six month goal we set together.

It won’t surprise you that I feel Jane did the better job. She made sales now, which is important, but she also is building her list and can sell people on that list many things over time and will never pay again to reach that group of interested prospects. And that is better.
Successful marketing is repeatable

The odd thing about promoting products online is that sometimes your promotion hits and sometimes it misses. We will all have hits and misses. But generally speaking the promotional methods that work for you once should continue to work for a very long time. While it’s true that specific tactics change, the basic ideas behind good marketing do not change. Provide helpful information. Meet people’s needs. Promote only great products. And always treat people with respect.

The key to highly repeatable success in marketing is not to use every method under the sun and hope they all work in some magical way to create results. The key is to use methods you understand and keep using them, refining your skill level as you go along.

That’s what I did with article marketing. The first article I ever wrote was … weak. Now I can write better articles in much less time because I have written so many.

I believe the key here is to find marketing methods that you like and understand and then sharpen your skills along the way. If you do that you will make time your ally and you will be stronger, and more independent, next month than you are this month.
Successful marketing builds credibility

In my view credibility is the most important asset one can have online. There are certain marketers that are just almost impossible to believe. They use hype to sell their quick-fix solutions, knowing that few, if any, buyers will actually benefit. Then there are those that are so solid you just believe everything they say.

For me Paul Myers is a good example. Paul helped me tremendously when I started out online and I will never forget it. I’ve read his ezine for a dozen years and suggest you read it too.

I believe there are two major keys to building trust online. First, give more than you get. Give out high-quality helpful information (whether you write it or not) with the singular goal of helping people. Be it on your blog or in your ezine or follow up email series (or all three) aim to help people and they will reciprocate. I’ve seen it happen for many many years now.

Second, never promote junk products. It’s sad but true that so many of the emails and ads we see today are promoting products that are so hyped up that it becomes a turn off. If you are like me you want to scream when you hear that someone has “cracked the code” or that some super-secret video has been “leaked”. Give me a break!

If you commit to only promoting top quality products I believe three things will happen for you.

You will create happy buyers. And happy buyers become repeat buyers.
You will keep more of what you earn as you see the refund rate for the products you promote plummet.
You will build trust and gain credibility in the marketplace and with those on your list.

These are all very good things indeed.
Successful marketing makes sense

Most of us have fallen prey to the “I don’t understand how this works but it sounds so good I *have* to try it” syndrome. Slick sales letters and Hollywood-style sales videos convince us to take a chance on the latest three-click wonder even when we know deep down it sounds too good to be true. After all, we can always get a refund, right? Yes, but what about the wasted time? You can’t get that back.

I’m sure you know by now that there is no magic bullet and that no one is going to force Google to do anything, much less send them all the traffic they want.

I know that many people want someone to say “just do this” and then the money comes tumbling in. But that’s not how business works online, or offline either. While there are blueprints you can follow, and while there are real shortcuts you can take, the add-water-and-stir solution is a myth.

So the thing to do is to choose the thing that makes the most sense to you. That might be solo ads, it might be building your own list, it might be pay per click or article marketing. My advice is to make a list of possible ways you could market given your personal budget of time and money and then learn more about the one that seems most logical to you.

One important key is to choose something you enjoy. That might be blogging or it might be posting to Facebook. Either can be wildly profitable when done well and constantly.
Summing up

Creating a successful business online takes hard work, time and focus. It does not take much money however, and that’s good news for most of us. When I started as a member of the Directory of Ezines it was a real strain to pay the $40 fee. But we followed a good plan, worked hard and it worked out.

If you create a good plan and follow it you can expect three things in my view.

An income that happens whether you work today or not.
Growing confidence that you can try new things (promote products, launch products, new marketing methods) and have them work. Success breeds success.
More freedom and peace of mind than you might now hope to achieve.

Working online is work, plain and simple. But unlike working offline, working online empowers you to build a real and sustainable business using nothing more than the sweat of your brow and the keyboard on your desk. Working online can create both time and money freedom too.

And that is a beautiful thing indeed!

If you want an easy way to create a powerful “swipe file” then subscribe to the email follow up systems of top sellers in your market and scan their emails once a week. 7. Alternative “number of ways” formula.  Instead of a number of steps approach. If your product or service offers alternative solutions to a problem then say exactly what they are right up front.

8. Use an “in under” formula. When these two resources are involved ~ time & money, using an “in under” or “for less than” approach can work really well.  An example is “How to succeed online for under $100!” If you can deliver on your promise, and it's important to know that you can, then make the strongest statement possible.

9. Specific your audience. If your product or service works better, or is specifically for women then say so up front. A headline that starts “For women who want …” will attract the women visitors quickly and let them know you understand them.

10. Qualification. This is a more advanced headline technique but it works well if you are brave enough to attempt it. You are basically saying that you are not sure they are qualified to buy this product or qualify for the service that you provide, and you need to see if they do indeed qualify for the wonderful offer you are about to introduce and share with them. Many big-name marketers use this approach, especially when selling higher-end products or courses. Why do they do it? Simply because it works!.

Using these 10 steps will help you create powerful headlines for your website, your emails, your blog, or anywhere else you might need to get people to stop and pay attention.

How to Generate Quality Content for Marketing and Advertising?

No doubt you’ve heard it countless times before, “Content is King”. ~ that’s what the experts espouse.  But what we need to clarify is that it’s not just any content that merits that royal tag ~ it has to be quality content. We need to be able to determine what’s good and what’s bad. It’s an area we need to address ~ so here goes….

It’s Not What You May Say, It’s the Way That You Say It

It reminds me of the old saying It’s not what you say – it’s the way that you say it – that’s what gets results and it happens to be absolutely true. The written words that you’re posting have to persuade others that what you’re offering is important to them in away that will benefit them, but please do not use the power of your words without thought. Do not use the power of your use of words to mislead or misrepresent. You have to gain your readers trust, so it’s imperative that you are truthful and honest when presenting the benefits and merits of your service or product. Therefore you must consider beforehand what you say on your page, you need to be familiar with your product, and have faith in it. That will always shine through in the words you use.

It’s an undeniable fact that marketers do place words on pages merely to satisfy the requirement to incorporate “keywords” and “key phrases” that will provide them with the best search engine results. Whilst it is appreciated that search engine optimization is a vital element of an internet marketing strategy, the danger is to place too much emphasis on this area of the composition and regard all the rest as merely filler. That strategy will not work. Think about it, SEO is all about generating website traffic that will result in an outcome that you are attempting to achieve. So, when they actually get to your page and read your content they want it to be comprehensive, informative, factual, they will need to be attracted to you service or product based on what you write. Applying an approach that primarily provides contrived content to cater for the needs of the search engines will not work. Your visitors will not be impressed ~ they will simply leave and based on their initial experience ~ will not return.

You will quite simply be the owner of a high volume website that gets a great deal of website traffic

There is so much information available on the world wide web, and people utilize that access to information and knowledge to learn about whatever they are seeking. So, it’s imperative that you offer something special that separates you from the myriad of similar offers or products out there that they’ve already checked out. Help them acquire what they are looking for with content that stands out and you’ll be well on the way to making sales.

Affiliate programs can be very lucrative. But to maximize your earnings potential, you have to engage your readers. Bear in mind that affiliates do not receive payment until they’ve persuaded their readers that it’s in their best interest to take action.  It’s not a case of just getting impressions or clicks ~ you actually have to get your readers to get out that credit card and use it. With that in mind, here are the Top 10 Must Do’s for affiliate marketing success.

1. Get to Know Your Readers

You are there to provide a service for your audience, you must therefore endeavour to predict their requirements and meet those demands. Establish why they are visiting your site. And ask yourself if you are actually providing what they actually want. You must ensure that the affiliate products that you are promoting do fulfil your readers’ wants and needs and provides them with the solution they have been searching for.

Don’t oversell. If you site relates to sports for example, don’t be tempted to place affiliate ads for printer cartridges just because everyone has a printer and those programs have a high payout.  You have to respect your readers’ needs, and if I may say so, their intelligence. They visited your site for a specific purpose “sports” news and information, they do not want to be sidetracked.

Relevancy is therefore high on the agenda, the more relevant  the ads are to your readers, the more chance you have to get them to use them..

2. Gain Trust

As indicated above, readers nowadays are really savvy. They know an affiliate link when they see one. If you have taken time to build a relationship and a level of trust, all that time will have been wasted if you break that trust by promoting a product or products you personally don’t believe in, or if you take advantage of their visit by inundating your posts and pages with copious amounts of ads. It will only result in one thing and one thing only ~ they’ll leave and never return

So, build that relationship I referred to, by providing relevant genuine content. This will result in your visitors becoming regular readers, and it’s these readers that will in time drive traffic to your site at zero cost, they’ll give you those all important back-links, they’ll spread the gospel about the wonderful site they’ve just visited, and recommend your site as the go to place for quality content..

Honesty really is the best policy. If you fail to display that virtue in your content and your site in general, they won’t read anything else you have to say.

3. If You Can Help Somebody….

In my opinion the professional way to include affiliate ads on your site, is to do so as additional resources that fully complement your content. Content is king, give value to it. Don’t be tempted to provide affiliate links for any old item, in the hope that your visitor will check it out. Instead, try a more helpful and constructive way of presenting your links. For example, if you’ve read a book, used a particular product, or want to recommend a service, why not provide your readers with a comprehensive review of that book, item, or service, and use affiliate ads to point them in the right direction. If they, after reading your review, decide to act on the information you provided. That’s what affiliate ads are for. If your review results in your readers purchasing something as a direct result of your efforts and writing talent you deserve to be rewarded.

At the risk of repeating myself,  including links that do not complement your content, will result in something that we need to avoid ~ providing another reason for your visitors to take the exit route.

4. Transparency

It’s always advisable to declare your affiliations. When you do, your readers will know exactly where they stand, and the majority will appreciate your honesty, and will feel better about contributing to your bank balance. On the other hand, if they feel that you are not upfront about your affiliations, the likelihood is that  savvy visitors will simply bypass your link and make their purchase via the vendors link just because you failed to disclose your allegiance Why should they support you when you’ve kept them in the dark..

I mentioned earlier that honesty is the best policy, and coming clean, and being upfront with your visitors is a vitally important element when it comes to building a loyal reader base. Your visitors/readers know that they helping you when they click on your links, your job is to show you appreciate their loyalty. Make sure you keep them happy so that they continue to click on your links for years to come.

5. Product Selection

Careful consideration needs to be given to the different options for products or services that will be made available via your site. What will your readers need or like? It’s also an idea to swap your ads around every so often to spice things up a bit and by doing so you’ll be able to determine which are the most effective.

It may take some time before you’re in a position to determine the best option, but even when you do you can still continue to rotate your ads to continue attracting your readers attention.

6. Vary Your Programs

It was Albert Einstein who said, and I quote “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” With leads me to add ~ If the program you’re in is not working for you ~ try another one. There are plenty out there.

 

Affiliate programs differ in relation to their products, services and payment structures. Some will have recurring payouts on sales while others will limit it to 30-90 days. Some programs also allow more flexibility than others in the type of ads they have available,  colors and design also vary so it fits better on your site’s layout.

It’s also worth investigating whether your favorite vendors run their own affiliate program. If they do you can approach them directly, this way you’re not limited to the bigger affiliate networks. It’s also a wise move to integrate systematic ad testing into your strategy to maximize your profits.

7. Write Timeless Content

Content is “king” ~ So do ensure that your site is up to date, change is an ever present in the world of marketing and as a result your older content might offer your readers dated information. To overcome this potential drawback and make your content timeless, simply add links to your updated posts on your old ones.

If visitors come across your older content first, the absence of any link to updated material could result in them leaving your site.

Many platforms allow you to show “most recent” or “most popular” or “related articles” on every page, so no matter how old the article is, it will always show access to your new ones. But your our old content can still continue to make money for you indefinitely.

8. Patience is a Virtue

Affiliate income grows and builds up with time. Some programs offer lifetime payouts, So if you refer a visitor, you may continue to receive payments  from that one visitor even if he or she doesn’t return to your site. Also, as long as you have referral links still active in your old posts, they may still payout for you. Always ensure that your links are up to date and functioning properly, test them out periodically.

Affiliate programs aren’t a get rich quick plan, but they do provide you with an opportunity to make passive income in the future.

9. Relevancy

As I mentioned earlier the online world changes at a rate of knots, it is essential therefore to keep abreast of developments relating to the latest offerings of your affiliate programs. They are always seeking to improve and you must adopt the same principle in order to see continued success. These changes will help refresh your site and offer your visitors new experiences and make them aware that you are moving with the times. This will ensure that the level of trust that you’ve built up is also maintained. Keep your finger on the pulse, don’t be complacent. Small changes go a long way in motivating action by readers.

10. Content Is King

Above all else, killer content must be your number one priority.

Your content is your foundation, the life blood on which your site exists. Without quality helpful content, you simply will not attract visitors to your site. Focus on the provision of excellent content, and the monetizing strategies will follow in its wake.

Compromising on your content to cater to the affiliate programs or any other money making venture, will result in the loss of the readership that you have worked so hard to attract and retain. Once that happens, you will lose the opportunity to receive any earnings from any of your ads.

Can I Really Make Money Online?

The answer to the question is simple ~ Yes you can!! But how you achieve that goal is far from simple ~ in fact it’s very hard. There are many ways to generate income online what you have to do when you start out is establish which approach is right for you, that involves reading up on the different methods you can apply, and researching which one fits in with your particular skills, personality, and ability. One of the most common and popular strategies these days are  operating a marketing blog just like this one.and affiliate promotion.

Blogging is a familiar and popular activity for lots of people, and applying the knowledge and awareness you might have developed when writing blogs as a hobby, can easily be utilized and transferred to a business setup quite easily. Even if you have no blogging experience it’s an area that you can pick up and learn easily and quickly. I believe that the best way to proceed is to decide on a niche that you are familiar with and you have a level of expertize in that niche that’s above the norm. .Develop your blogging skills and provide quality content that will build up your visitor numbers. Over time you can insert affiliate links, and as your site gains in popularity provide advertising space, where advertisers pay a monthly fee for displaying their banners or links on your site. This approach when executed properly can bring in thousands of dollars per month.

There are many programs out there that provide people who are starting out with excellent information and educational material. This does involve a commitment to investing in your business and spending money wisely on products that will genuinely help and support you get your blog up and running in no time at all. Furthermore these products will enable you to become an expert without the need to read volumes of notes and instructions, in fact you more or less look over their shoulder and learn to apply the techniques they show you with little effort. Once you’ve acquired the knowledge you rinse and repeat.
